Eat Kit Kats – Find Jesus

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Oh Sweet Jesus….. Yes, look closely into the Kit-Kat bar. Who do you see?

I don’t know why I love this so much. Maybe it’s becuase it reminds me of  Dali’s brilliant  ”Gala Contermplating the Mediterranean Which at Twenty Meters Becomes a Portrait of Abraham Lincoln.”

More likely it’s because I’ve always had a thing for icons spotted in mundane objects.

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto the man to see what he would call them; and whatsoever the man would call every living creature, that was to be the name thereof. Genesis 2:19

Our use of language doesn’t just describe the world it shapes the way that we perceive the world.  This recent study shows that native Greek speakers perceive color differently than native English speakers.

God Drug

Marx has often been inaccurately quoted as saying that “Religion is the opiate of the masses.” What he actually said is more subtle and interesting.  But in a bizarre twist on his words scientists have begun to explore the possibility of a drug that induces spiritual feelings.  And no its not LSD.  Although LSD does lock into the same receptor.

This article from Brain Stimulant explores the role of the 5-ht1a receptor in religious feeling.   It also asks the important question of what disease drug companies might invent to drive sales for such a pill.
